About Us

100 Businesses That Care is a group of West Michigan-based companies who want to make an impact on our local community. We are currently recruiting members who would like to join us in this exciting new endeavor. The “100 Who Care” model has been used throughout Michigan and across the country as a way for like-minded people to make relatively small charitable contributions that when combined create a large impact.

The idea is simple. Companies (or individuals) joining the group agree to donate $1,000 per year to West Michigan 501(c)(3) charities. Members meet twice per year to nominate and hear pitches from three charities and cast their votes. Each member then makes a $500 contribution directly to the winning charity. Thus, with a membership of 100 companies, each charity chosen will receive a donation of $50,000, and a total of $100,000 will go back to our West Michigan community each year.

This strategy is efficient and effective. It gives each company the opportunity to make a significant impact on the community without taking up significant time and resources. 100 Businesses That Care is not itself a 501(c)(3) or incorporated business. Founding members are passionate volunteers dedicating time and talent to make a difference in our community. 100% of donations are steered directly to the chosen non-profit, which also enables each member to realize the tax benefits of their charitable contribution.

We hope you agree that this is a great way for West Michigan businesses to give back to the community. If you’d like to participate as a member, please fill out our commitment form.

How It Works

  • Members meet twice per year at rotating locations.

  • Prior to the meeting, each member can nominate one 501(c)(3) charity for consideration.

  • A committee of founding members will select three finalists.

  • Each finalist is invited to present a 5-minute pitch at the meeting.

  • After the presentations, members vote online - one vote per member company attending.

  • As votes are cast, the previous winning charity provides an update on how the funds were used.

  • The winner is announced.

  • Contributions to the winning charity may be made online or members may mail a check made out the charity to the founding member host, who will compile and deliver the checks to the charity in person.
